Enter Hawaiian Shave Ice. My official treat of summer '09. Seriously I can't get enough of this fluffy, snowlike stuff. I've always been a sucker for icy-types of treats. As many of you know, I chew ice like a mad woman and have spent a fair share of my time with Astro Bars (Pace's version of the popsicle), Slurpees, slushies, frozen lemonades and granitas. And don't think this is a snow cone because nothing could be farther from the truth.
I did a little research on Shave Ice because I immediately knew I needed one of these machines (but I'm not ready to part with 1500 bucks). Turns out it really IS Shave Ice, not Shaved Ice...I thought it was one of those Asian things like when you go to a Chinese restaurant and the sign says, "Lunch special come with 3 won-ton". Anyway, migrant Japanese plantation workers supposedly parched by midday sun shaved large blocks of ice with their machetes then sweetened the shavings with cane sugar. Well, however the stuff came to be, I'm just glad there's a joint down the street that sells it.

Hahaha! Man, you're spoiled! I have to stick with Otter Pops, but I'm beginning to see I must venture out to this other world of shaved ice.
Holy Cow, I thought I was the only one...it must be in the genes. Everynight I raid Nancy or Harriets ice machine and after discovering the shaved ice guy in the mall parking lot, that is now a must stop everytime I go to town!!!! I am so into it that I even purchased a snow cone machine ($29 at Target) for my work, it isn't as good as the shaved ice but it gets me through the day!
I love the stuff! We got hooked on it in Hawaii and have craved it ever since. It's a good and bad thing that you've tole me they are here in Btfl!!
Guess your snoopy snocone machine isn't good enough for you anymore!!
