Changing the subject...

I don't know whether I ate something salmonella-ish or if it's some kind of bug that I've been the host to the past two days. Bleh. In between stomach cramps, nausea and that other thing which shall not be named, I can't help but think of my Dad who has been dealing with the above mentioned 3 symptoms plus more as he's simultaneously undergone aggressive chemo and radiation. One nurse described it best from what I can see, "It's enough to almost kill you but hopefully just kill the cancer." It's been really difficult to see my Dad go from a healthy, active man to someone who is just a shadow of his former self. It hurts.

But with heartaches in life there is the opposite; opportunities to experience joy. So I'm going to take a few minutes and list a few of those here that help me to think of other things aside from stomachs and the like (in no particular order)...

1. Tart frozen yogurt...it has to be tart
2. The new ceiling fan above my bed
3. Game Night
4. Polka dots
5. That little dimple by Carter's left eye
6. Maizy coming back to our house from a potty trip instead of heading to the cornfield down the street
7. A nap on the cool leather couch in my cool basement (and by cool I mean temperature not socially adept)
8. Jameson saying, "I'm tired...aren't you Mom?" Ah, someone does think about Mom.
9. Smelling lavender in my front yard
10. A coupon. And having that coupon with me at the store.
11. Hearing my niece's dating stories
12. Limeades from Sonic during Happy Hour
13. My hubby's lips
14. Taking out your ponytail at the end of the day (thanks Jackie for this one)
15. Washing my baby's "chins"
16. "Everything but the Oven" from Coldstone
17. A stroll with the stroller
18. Freshly done eyebrows from the salon
19. Clean, taught sheets on my bed
20. My Dad requesting one of my baked goodies
21. Paraffin wax on my feet
22. Seeing someone I used to be so in love with...and knowing without a doubt I married the right guy
23. Multiple discounts..."Yes, Mam, you may use that coupon on top of your clearance-priced merchandise."
24. Jameson wrangling the dogs up from outside, emptying the dishwasher and/or taking out the trash all on his own
25. Nanaimo bars from Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery
26. Seeing The Boy's use of Scotch tape as an art medium
27. Finding a gift card that I forgot about...and it not being expired!
28. Finding the 'last one' at the store
29. Hearing a favorite song on the radio and when it's over changing the station and getting to hear it a second time (I'm ipod-less)
30. 'Marathons' on TV

Thanks for the positive and the negative. I guess we always get the good with the bad. I'm sorry for your dad too. Cancer just sucks! I need to make a gratitude list myself. You've inspired me. Thanks

Watching my mom deal with chemo was so hard... we are praying for your dad.

I love the list... it is amazing how the "little things" can be such "big things."
