The Simple Things

One of the things I love about my yard are all the huge, mature trees. So although Grandma Millie (former owner) adorned her walls with massive pink roses, she did make sure the backyard had lots of shade. Every morning I have at least one or two friends that call me to make sure I'm up and at 'em. Those friends are of the feathered variety...blue jays or scrub jays to be more exact. My mother-in-law let me in on a little trick. Place a few unsalted, unshelled peanuts* in a bird feeder and you'll get these friendly fellows as loyal friends.

If ever I forget about them, albeit momentarily, they'll remind me with a squawk. At first I thought this guy was the only patron (gluttonously storing them in his nest) but after closer inspection I noticed there was more than one. So although I have friends that are freaked out by birds, nay are deathly afraid of them... Ornithophobia, I would recommend this past time to all the rest of my friends.

* you can get a healthy sized bag of peanuts at Costco for around $10
