Trying too hard?

Remember when Monica Lewinsky did that prime time interview and the next day everyone wanted her exact shade of lipstick. Lipstick retailers were living it up trying to convince people that they had just the thing. We are consumers and we are definitely influenced by what we see around us, especially on TV. I know, I know, you don't watch much TV, right? Whatever. I bet those of you who claim you do not partake in the gluttony of the boob tube did watch the inauguration or at least clips of it later in the day. Anyway, now it's time for everyone to do that thing they do. I want to look like Michelle Obama! I realize this woman is probably a little more of a fasionista than we've seen for a while in the Whitehouse. I mean Laura Bush was a lovely, demure woman and all and Hilary Clinton with her new haircut when she was President (I mean her hubby was Prez) and Babs Bush with her classic multi string pearls all made impressions on us, but this new first lady is just a little younger, a little hipper and a lot more likely that one would want to emulate fashion-wise. I get it. I did think her lemongrass suit was refreshing and a nice deviation from the standard red or blue. The gloves were just a tad iffy for me but she did redeem herself with the white ballgown.

My question is, do we really need to scramble to find (or fashions designers to manufacture) that yellow suit dress? Really? I am guilty of watching the AM news shows the next morning post-inauguration and seeing the breakdown on Michelle's fabric, detailing and designer's inspirations. I was mildly interested to hear the story behind the dress but...that's as far as it goes. I don't need to own it. I mean, how often am I going to need a lemongrass dress suit?

So this morning, the AM people were informing the anxious public that there are two different manufacturers that will have similar dress suits in shades of yellow available in March. Fewww! I would encourage you now not to be saving your $389 for them though, the shade of yellow was HIDEOUS. Oh, and for the little darlings, there are wool coats in blue, oranges and pinks with satin bows available right now so your daughters can look just like Sasha and Malia.

I actually did't find the Angel moms on your blog, but I would be interested in knowing. I wonder if they are the same. Thanks for the sweet comment. Sometimes life takes us places we don't really want to go as I'm sure you know. Nicole
