Bargain Shopper in the Making

I finally did it. I took my boys to Deseret Industries...aka the DI. I, myself go there frequently with my job and now and then for me just to see what's there. Love finding a bargain. Especially love when I find something that that they (as in the employees who price the donations) didn't realize what they had their hands on. Example: A piece of Cutco priced at just $1.50. Most of the time I so don't need the stuff, but when you find a deal you kind of have to get it.

Here's where the problem lies: I'm a huge germaphobe. No revelation there to people who know me but it is kind of interesting that I work at a homeless shelter. It's a mecca for all kinds of things I try not to think about. Apparently, I not only passed my love for chocolate onto Jameson but also my fear of filth as well - which in some ways has worked out quite well for me as a mom. He's a freak when it comes to public restrooms and is always worried about what kind of germs may be getting to his little brother.

So as I dropped off a load of outgrown clothes to my local DI, I asked Jameson if he would like to go inside and see what they had. I explained what the DI was all about; how it helps people learn job skills, helps people that have little money and great need and how people in other countries that struggle can benefit from our outgrown clothes and the like. Then I told him that as soon as we were home we would have to wash everything we purchased. As we walked inside, Jameson asked, "So everything is free?" Nope, just doesn't cost as much money as the regular store. He was hooked from there. He found a light saber, a C3PO figure and of course was mesmerized by the "Collectibles" section (as am I). I found a brand new burp cloth and sterling silver baby spoon gift set. We left with our treasures a mere $3.25 later. As we pulled out of the parking lot, Jameson told me, "I wanna come here everyday!"
