Girl Gourmet

I learned in one of my college courses that children in smaller families typically do not follow rigid gender roles, e.g. girls can fix cars and boys can take dance lessons if they want. Jameson would have loved having one of those cool little kiddie kitchens when he was younger and he enjoyed playing with Littlest Pet Shop for quite some time (despite some mothers questioning my purchases at Kohls one day). The way I see it they are cute animals...is that not universally appealing? It always bugged me that many toys are marketed to girls specifically. They are packaged in pink - one sure way to get my kid to lose interest fast. Nothing was more frustrating than this...

Girl Gourmet...seriously? Why can't boys bake? I know my son likes to. He would be thrilled with one of these cupcake making gadgets but not if you are going to slap on a brand like "Girl Gourmet" and put pictures of girly girls all over it. Come on! He'll walk down the "pink aisle" at Target to see the latest offerings from "Puppy In My Pocket" but he will not spend time perusing merchandise with a name like that. Big miss, marketing execs.

On a lighter, gender neutral note...The Boy, my Jameson was just awarded his Dynamite Reader award in Mrs. Byrd's 1st grade class. He read 100 books in just over a month! He worked his hiney off for this one and I'm so proud of him. He's proud of himself too which makes me smile. Way to go J!!

It is sad. We need more nurturing men that can cook.

We have a play kitchen that all the boys that visit are drawn to. They get the apron on and everything. I'm curious if they would still play with it if it was pink!
